English Lesson

Tucked away in the Yuanyang rice terraces is
a traditional village which puts on dances for tourists.

We get there on foot,
us and a pig or two.

A dancer heard Lucy speak both
Mandarin & English. She asked Lucy
to pronounce the English words in a child's
English/Chinese alphabet book she had.

So began the impromtu English lesson.
It started with the dancer, Lucy, our guide
and a couple of kids.

It proceeded to a bench,
and the circle of children got bigger and tighter.

When the lesson stops for the dance, the enterprising student
performs at the far left ...

When the lesson resumed,
half the village watched.

We leave for more sightseeing,
hot and happy.
