From Arnhem to Deventner

Arnhem was a battlefield during World War II. The next morning, we cycled to the Airborne Museum in Oosterbeek, where we stood mutely reading of Operation Market Garden and the Battle of Arnhem ("A Bridge Too Far"). It is so hard to know that war and death and impoverishment can happen in such a serene and contemporary place. We also visited the nearby Oosterbeek War Cemetery where we stood by graves, heard personal stories by the volunteer historian/caretaker of the cemetary and placed a wreath for all who fought and died here.

Rain caught us on the ride back, but the sun came out as we barged along the river to Zutphen.
We hopped back on our bikes and rode (and stopped) on our way to Deventner.
