A flat, easy day took us through Santa Barbara, Summerland, Carpinteria (where we had lunch by the ocean), briefly onto the freeway, then onto the Pacific Coast Highway. In Ventura, we watched para-surfers harness the whistling wind to power themselves through and over the breaking waves. Liz’s two simultaneous flat tires at the day’s end slowed us but briefly, and we were delighted to get the inside scoop on Ventura from another cousin Cynthian Wilhelmy who treated us to a Thai dinner. (Liz, Galen and Cynthian are daughters of the three “O’Malley sisters” who are alive and well in their 90’s and 80’s.)

Liz got two "thorn-inflicted" flats simultaneously, but had the great fortune of riding with two compassionate techies.
On to next day
